Raksha bandhan is called by different names across India. In North and West India, the Rakhi festival is referred to as ‘Rakhi Purnima’. In the regions of Western ghats, it is often called as ‘Nariyal Purnima’. Raksha Bandhan is celebrated in South India as ‘Avani Avittam’. In all Central India, this auspicious day is often called as ‘ Kajari Purnima’. In the western parts of India, it is celebrated as ‘Pavitrapana’. In West Bengal and Odisha, the joyous occasion of Rakhi is known as ‘Jhulan Purnima’. In Jammu and regions of North India, people fly kites and celebrate the Rakhi festival.
